BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, owner of the nation's most reliable wireless network, announced today it will sponsor a new 5K corporate race and fitness event this summer in downtown Morristown, NJ. Called the Verizon Wireless Corporate Classic, the evening event will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2006 with proceeds benefiting Jersey Battered Women's Service.

The Verizon Wireless Corporate Classic 5K is open to corporate teams, as well as individual runners and walkers, including students, area residents and their friends and families.

"We expect to draw some of the state's fastest competitive runners," said Mark Monteyne, head coach and wellness manager at Verizon Wireless, "but the event is really about fitness and fun for everyone-racers, joggers, walkers and their fans."

For the past 17 years, Morristown has hosted an annual footrace for employee teams from New Jersey corporations. "Verizon Wireless has won the largest participation award at Morristown's corporate run for as long as I can remember," said Dan Brannen, the event's race director. "As a leader in corporate workplace fitness, Verizon Wireless is a natural choice to continue this tradition and sponsor the event."

Registration for the Verizon Wireless Corporate Classic is available online at www.verizonwirelessclassic.com or by calling 973-898-9386 for a mail-in registration form.

Jersey Battered Women's Service, beneficiary of this year's race, is a non-profit organization in Morris County that provides a range of life-saving and life-rebuilding services to victims of domestic violence and their families. Verizon Wireless' main community service efforts focus on domestic violence education and prevention. Through its HopeLine® program, the company recycles and donates wireless phones and service to victims, and provides financial grants to non-profit domestic violence advocacy agencies.
