SCHAUMBURG, IL — Verizon Wireless has installed seven new cell sites throughout suburban Chicago that expand network coverage and increase capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messages, and download games and ring tones while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell sites improve Verizon Wireless' voice and data network in the following areas:

  • In Elgin, at Silver Glen Road and Corron Road, and north to Bowes Road, south to Burlington Road, east to Stevens Road and west to Dittman Road;
  • In Lombard, in and around Yorktown Mall, and north to Roosevelt Road, south to U.S. Interstate 90, east to Meyers Road and west to Finley Road;
  • In Long Grove and the surrounding area, along Route 22 to the north, Lake Cook Road to the south, Buffalo Grove Road to the east and Hicks Road to the west;
  • In Warrenville, within the Fermi National Laboratory campus, north to Mack Road, south to Butterfield Road, east to Winfield Road and west to Eola Road;
  • In Oak Park, at Chicago Avenue and North Ridgeland Avenue, and north to Division Street, south to Madison Street, east to Central Avenue and west to Thatcher Avenue;
  • In the St. Charles area, at North Avenue and La Fox Road, and north to Burlington Road, south to Route 38, east to Burr Road and west to Campton Park;
  • In West Chicago, around St. Andrew's Golf Course, and north to Smith Road, south to Hawthorne Lane, east to Fairbanks Road and west to Powls Road.

"These new cell sites reflect our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the reliable, high quality service they expect from Verizon Wireless," said T.J. Fox, president—Illinois/Wisconsin Region, Verizon Wireless.

Reliable service is fundamental to customer loyalty, and Verizon Wireless boasts the highest customer loyalty in the industry. During the fourth quarter of 2005, only 1.2 percent of its customers disconnected their service, which is well below the industry average.

"The value we offer our customers is closely tied to our industry-leading customer retention," Fox said. "Wireless consumers today understand that value is not defined by price alone. A major reason our customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us is because we offer the nation's most reliable network."

The new cell sites in suburban Chicago are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Illinois and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years-$5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. More than $151 million of this investment was spent in Illinois in 2005.
