SAN MARCOS, TX — To provide the best wireless service for businesses, residents and students in San Marcos, Verizon Wireless has expanded its digital network by constructing a new advanced digital site on the northwest side of San Marcos.

The new site processes voice calls and wireless data traffic utilizing the company's advanced high-speed Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) technology and was designed to improve wireless coverage throughout northwest San Marcos, including the County Estates, Hughson Heights, North Craddock and Holland neighborhoods.

"This new site in San Marcos will help enhance and expand coverage for Verizon Wireless customers in San Marcos," said Luis M. Cruz, region president for Verizon Wireless. "It allows us to meet the growing voice and data needs of businesses and consumers on a daily basis."

The newest high-speed data services from Verizon Wireless are V CAST, which offers streaming video and music content via wireless phones, and BroadbandAccess, which provides data users with wireless broadband transfer speeds of 400-700 kbps. Verizon Wireless has already rolled out BroadbandAccess and V CAST in San Marcos and several other Texas markets, including: Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Beaumont.

The new site and EV-DO service are part of Verizon Wireless' continuing growth and investment in Texas. In 2005, the company spent more than $290 million in the state to further expand and enhance its all-digital network.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $30 billion nationally in the last six years — $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services.

The company's 'most reliable network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "Can you hear me now? Good.®" national advertising campaign. These engineers make more than 300,000 call tests monthly on Verizon Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling over 100,000 miles a month in specially equipped, company-owned test vehicles.
