COLLIERVILLE, TN — Verizon Wireless, a recognized corporate leader in the fight against domestic violence, will donate $5,000 to a new domestic violence community program recently introduced by Shelby County District Attorney General Bill Gibbons. District Attorney Gibbons will officially accept the check along side the Collierville Chamber of Commerce and city officials on Tuesday, August 1 at 11:00 AM in conjunction with a ribbon-cutting ceremony of Verizon Wireless' new Collierville store, located at 1055 West Poplar Avenue.

The $5,000 donation will help fund the new initiative recently launched by the D.A.'s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit that will put salon owners and managers through a training program to learn how to spot signs of domestic abuse and encourage victims to get help from local support services.

"Domestic abuse is a serious issue in Shelby County, and our goal is to educate the community about domestic violence prevention and the resources available for victims in our area," comments D.A. Gibbons. "Verizon Wireless' commitment to domestic violence prevention provides our office with the tools and support we need to make our effort successful."

Verizon Wireless' commitment to fighting domestic violence began in 1995 when the company introduced its HopeLine® program as a way to make a difference in the areas of domestic violence awareness, prevention and victim recovery.

The Collierville store and all of Verizon Wireless' 2,000 company-owned stores collect used cell phones (any make, model or carrier) to recycle the phones and give the proceeds to domestic violence programs across the country.

Store hours for the Collierville store are Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday, 1:00-6:00 PM. The Collierville store phone number is 901-854-1067 and Ruby Mays is the store manager. Customers can also visit these additional Verizon Wireless retail outlets in the Greater Memphis area:
