SOUTHFIELD, MI — Verizon Wireless announced today the completion of a network upgrade project that boosts call capacity by 20 percent across 40 communities in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The upgrades to many of the company's cell sites in the area enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive e-mail and TXT, Picture and Video Messages, as well as to download games and ring tones.

The cities that are benefiting from the upgrade include Belleville, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Canton, Clinton Township, Commerce, Commerce Township, Detroit, Eastpointe, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Fraser, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Inkster, Lathrup Village, Livonia, Madison Heights, Mt. Clemens, Northville, Novi, Oak Park, Plymouth, Romulus, Roseville, Royal Oak, Southfield, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Taylor, Troy, Van Buren Township, Warren, Wayne, West Bloomfield and Westland.

"These upgrades mean more customers can call Mom from the library, text friends while at the mall, download music in the park and accomplish work from the road-all on the nation's most reliable wireless network."

These network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase coverage and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Michigan and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years-$5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. The company has invested $728 million in the past six years in its Michigan network.
