CARLISLE, PA — Verizon Wireless has brought a temporary cell site-called a COW, or Cell On Wheels-to Carlisle to provide additional network calling capacity for the thousands of people expected to flock to the region to enjoy the Fall Carlisle Collector Car event, which runs September 27 through October 1.

The service enhancement means that more customers can use the Verizon Wireless network concurrently, whether making voice calls or using data applications such as TXT and Picture Messaging, or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"Fall Carlisle attracts thousands of visitors and that means additional demand for wireless service, even though it may be for just the weekend," said Roger Tang—president, Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our COW enables us to meet that temporary increase in call volume and to provide our customers with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

The ability to meet call volume demand, even on a temporary basis, is part of the company's commitment to stay ahead of the growing need for Verizon Wireless' voice and data services. The company has invested $30 billion in the last six years-$5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In 2005, Verizon Wireless invested $240 million in Pennsylvania.
