NASHVILLE, TN — Building on its successful strategy to provide customers superior wireless services in Tennessee, Verizon Wireless region president Jerry Fountain today announced the launch of the company's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network in Nashville, enabling both its BroadbandAccess and V CAST services. The new high-speed service launched today will initially reach one million people in the Nashville metropolitan area and outlying towns like Gallatin and Murfreesboro. Nashville joins Memphis and Knoxville markets where these services were launched last year.

"With today's launch, we have increased the broadband wireless coverage in Tennessee to reach over 2.5 million people," said Fountain. "Now customers in Nashville can enjoy the latest high-speed business and entertainment services on America's most reliable wireless network.* Additional markets in Tennessee will also have EV-DO before the end of 2007 with the help of Lucent Technologies."

"As the leading provider of CDMA wireless infrastructure and BroadbandAccess enterprise applications, Lucent is proud to partner with Verizon Wireless on this network development throughout Tennessee," comments Chris Donahue, area vice president for Lucent Technologies. "We design and deliver systems, services and software that drive next-generation communications networks. Our team is looking forward to being the resource that Tennesseans rely on every day to move business communications forward."

BroadbandAccess

BroadbandAccess provides on-the-go professionals with full, mobile access to their corporate information as if they were attached to the information via a high-speed wired connection. Users can conduct business anytime, anywhere in the BroadbandAccess coverage area via a secure, true high-speed data connection.

With average access speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), users can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment — the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file — in about 20 seconds. Current and new customers with any voice plan can now get unlimited BroadbandAccess for $59.99 monthly access with a two-year customer agreement. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited use with a one-year customer agreement.

Connecting to BroadbandAccess is easy, using a PC card that slides directly into most laptop computers, an integrated option on select notebook computers: Dell (Latitude 620 and 820); Lenovo (ThinkPad Z60, T60 and X60); and HP (Compaq nc6140) or by connecting a laptop to a BroadbandAccess-capable PDA or phone.

V CAST

V CAST, the nation's first wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers, offers the most comprehensive selection available of music, videos and 3D games on demand. Users can stream video clips (up to 5 minutes long) of the hottest entertainment, music videos, movie trailers, sports highlights, news and breaking weather directly to their Verizon Wireless V CAST-capable phone.

With V CAST Music, customers can browse and download songs from the V CAST Music library of 1.4 million songs directly onto their V CAST Music-enabled phone or Windows® XP-enabled PC. They can also transfer music from their PC to their V CAST Music-enabled phone and take their tunes with them without a second device.

For $15.00 monthly access added to their Verizon Wireless calling plan, customers in Nashville can get the V CAST Vpak, which includes unlimited access to a wide array of more than 300 daily updated video clips from leading news, sports, weather and entertainment content providers. Unlimited basic short content is included, but application download fees apply for 3D games, premium video short content, and all other Get It Now® applications.

Coverage

Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States. Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network coverage area now covers more than 150 million Americans.

Since 2003, Verizon Wireless has invested $230 million in Tennessee to build, maintain and expand its high-quality network and the growth continues in 2006. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion nationwide over the last six years — to ensure network reliability and expanded coverage and capacity.

BroadbandAccess customers who travel outside the coverage area with an EV-DO-capable device will switch seamlessly to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess network that offers average data transmission speeds between 60 and 80 kbps, with bursts up to 144 kbps.
