BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, applauded the "Cell Phone Tax Moratorium Act of 2007" introduced yesterday in the United States Senate by Sens. McCain (R-Ariz.) and DeMint (R-S.C.). The legislation calls for a three-year moratorium on state and local governments placing discriminatory taxes on wireless services.

"We have worked diligently for many years to protect our customers from unfair and discriminatory taxes on the wireless services that have become essential and integral to their daily lives," said Steve Zipperstein, vice president and general counsel of Verizon Wireless. "We applaud Senators McCain and DeMint for taking this bold step to protect wireless consumers from unfair and discriminatory taxes. The Senate Commerce Committee previously approved this Bill on a nearly unanimous, bi-partisan basis, and we urge Congress to move forward and enact it without delay."
