SCHENECTADY, NY — In response to growing demand for the company's voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has opened a new kiosk in the Rotterdam Square Mall in Schenectady. The new kiosk employs five people and has been designed to make wireless shopping more convenient for new customers and to provide current customers with greater access to the full array of Verizon Wireless products and services.

The new store is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am — 9:30 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am — 6:00 pm. The telephone number is 518-374-3713. Verizon Wireless Communications Stores offer a premier line of digital wireless phones in all price ranges, data services and accessories.

As part of the store's grand opening celebration, Verizon Wireless will donate $2,500 to the YWCA of Schenectady's Services to Women & Families Program to benefit local domestic violence victims. The donation will come from the company's HopeLine® Foundation. HopeLine is Verizon Wireless' exclusive nationwide phone recycling program. Marking its 12th year in 2007, the HopeLine program distributes previously owned wireless phones to victims of domestic violence, supports non-profit domestic violence advocacy groups, and provides an environmentally safe method for recycling phones.

No longer used phones are collected and either recycled or sold for parts, with wireless phones and/or monetary donations benefiting domestic violence agencies and victims. Since the HopeLine phone recycling efforts began in 2001, consumers have donated more than 3.5 million phones to HopeLine, more than 600,000 phones have been recycled, and more than $2 million in cash grants has been awarded.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $35 billion — on average, $5 billion every year since the company was formed seven years ago — to increase coverage and capacity, and to offer customers the most reliable service available in the nation, including wireless data services such as Picture Messaging, TXT Messaging, and the company's exclusive V CAST service. V CAST brings TV and other multimedia services to wireless phones over Verizon Wireless' newly enhanced high-speed BroadbandAccess wireless network, the fastest, most widely available broadband wireless network in the nation. BroadbandAccess customers in enhanced wireless broadband coverage areas can expect average download speeds of 450-800 kilobits per second (kbps) and average upload speeds of 300-400 kbps.
