TREVOSE, PA — Verizon Wireless customers in the Philadelphia Tri-State region now can access e-mail, corporate data, and the Internet at faster speeds, and upload files five to six times faster than before thanks to the roll-out of the next-generation of the company's high-speed broadband network across the region. The enhanced wireless broadband network now reaches Verizon Wireless customers throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

The technology, called Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev. A, provides customers sending and uploading data with uplink speeds even faster than the company's award-winning national EV-DO network and covers more than 95 percent of the Philadelphia Tri-State region population, including the following markets:

  • Southeastern Pennsylvania — The service is now available throughout the City of Philadelphia and surrounding Bucks, Montgomery and Delaware counties, as well as most of Chester county. In the Lehigh Valley, EV-DO Rev. A is available throughout the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro area and in dozens of surrounding towns in Lehigh and Northampton counties. In Reading Pa., coverage extends throughout the entire City of Reading and the immediate surrounding areas.
  • South Jersey — Available throughout southern New Jersey, including Trenton, the state capital, as well as Princeton, Camden, Cherry Hill and surrounding areas. Coverage also extends south along the Garden State Parkway and is available along the entire Jersey Shore, including Atlantic City and Cape May.
  • Delaware — Available throughout most of Delaware, the "First State," including the cities of Wilmington, Newark and Dover, the state capital, and surrounding areas.

Rev. A wireless broadband coverage is also available at all of the region's major airports, including Philadelphia International. In addition, business professionals and commuters traveling by rail along the Northeast Corridor from Philadelphia north to Boston or south to Washington, D.C., will be able to utilize the enhanced broadband service throughout the entire stretch of their commutes.

The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, will run faster and more efficiently with the new network enhancements. Customers in enhanced coverage areas can take advantage of a better customer experience when using Web-based applications. For example, BroadbandAccess customers can expect average download speeds of 450-800 kilobits per second (kbps) and average upload speeds of 300-400 kbps. Customers with Rev. A-compatible devices will be able to download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment — the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file — in less than 15 seconds and upload the same size file in less than 25 seconds, significantly faster than customers of wireless service providers who use non-EV-DO Rev. A technology.

The company's existing EV-DO network was the first in the nation and enables customers to access e-mail on their PDAs, BroadbandAccess service on their laptops, and V CAST Video and Music on their wireless phones. The network covers more than 200 million Americans in 242 major metropolitan areas and 180 major airports from coast to coast.

"Verizon Wireless is committed to delivering superior network reliability and services," said Christine Baron, the company's Philadelphia Tri-State region president. "Our EV-DO network will perform faster and more efficiently with these new enhancements and greatly benefit customers that upgrade to compatible devices."

Devices that take advantage of the faster speeds provided by the EV-DO Rev. A network enhancements are the USB720 wireless modem, the AirCard 595 and PC5750 AirCard from Verizon Wireless. Each is fully compatible with the company's enhanced and existing wireless broadband networks and the company's NationalAccess network (based on CDMA 1xRTT technology). Interested customers can contact a business sales representative at 1-800-922-0204. Devices and pricing are also available online at www.verizonwireless.com.
