Verizon Wireless And SanDisk Introduce 4-Gigabyte MicroSDHC Mobile Phone Card For V CAST Music Phones

ORLANDO, FL, and BASKING RIDGE, NJ — From the CTIA WIRELESS 2007^® show, Verizon Wireless and SanDisk^® Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today announced a 4-gigabyte (GB)¹ microSD™ High Capacity (SDHC™) card will be available on May 1. The largest capacity of the world's smallest removable flash memory card, the 4GB microSDHC is designed to meet the growing demand for a new generation of multimedia-capable mobile phones.

Using the 4GB SanDisk microSDHC card with a V CAST-capable phone and V CAST Music, Verizon Wireless customers can store more than 2,000 digital songs for use on their LG VX9400 and VX8700 phones. For picture and video aficionados, the 4G microSDHC offers the capability to store more than 4,000 high-resolution pictures or up to 16 hours of MPEG 4 video.² The card will be sold with an adapter that fits into a standard-size SD™ slot of other devices and will be available at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores.

The microSD card format uses the latest advancements in flash memory technology to deliver the smallest memory card in the world. Measuring about one-fourth the size of a standard SD card, the fingernail-size microSD card provides high-performance and expanded memory capacity for mobile phones using SanDisk's TransFlash™ card slot or any new devices that are marked as microSD slots.

SDHC is the new designation for any microSD or SD-based card that is larger than 2GB and adheres to the new SD 2.00 specification that is required for cards and hosts to support 4GB to 32GB capacities. The specification was developed by the SD Association, an industry standards board, which also defined three speed classes for speed and performance capabilities. These cards adhere to the SD Speed Class 2 Rating specification which defines a minimum sustained transfer speed for SDHC cards.³
