BIRMINGHAM, AL — Verizon Wireless, the only major carrier with a 30-day network test-drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier, announced today it has expanded its network coverage and capacity. A new cell site has been built in Waverly, providing coverage throughout the town and on Hwy 280. The new site will also enhance capacity and service in northwest Lee County.

During 2006, Verizon Wireless added more than 40 new cell sites across the state and continued the expansion of its Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) third generation (3G) wide-area network in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.

"Alabama's wireless customers increasingly choose Verizon Wireless because of the network quality and services we offer across the state. As evidence of that, minutes of use by Verizon Wireless customers in Alabama increased more than 28% from 2005 to 2006," says Jeff Mango, president Verizon Wireless Alabama/Georgia region. "We'll continue to focus on meeting our customers' growing wireless needs by delivering on our brand promise — the nation's most reliable wireless network."

Verizon Wireless has invested $35 billion in the last seven years — $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In the Alabama/Georgia region, the company has invested nearly $100 million to date in 2007 to expand and enhance its wireless network.

The company's most reliable wireless network claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women. These engineers conduct more than 3 million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data test annually on Verizon Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling almost 1 million miles in specially equipped, company owned test vehicles.
