Milwaukee, Wisconsin Community Gathers To Help Stomp Out Domestic Violence

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Presented by Verizon Wireless Charitable Event Taking Place Sunday, May 6

MILWAUKEE, WI — This unique men's march invites all members of the community to literally walk a mile in women's shoes to raise awareness and funds for programs that help those affected by domestic violence. The funds raised will directly benefit the domestic violence support and prevention programs of Sojourner Truth House, the Task Force on Family Violence and Jewish Family Services.

When: Sunday, May 6, 2007
9:30 a.m. — Registration and Shoe Fitting
10:45 a.m. — Kickoff
11:00 a.m. — Walk begins

Where: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Student Union
2200 E. Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee

Story/Visual Opportunities

  • Men (along with women and children) marching in women's shoes (not required) to take a stand against domestic violence and reinforce messaging and behavior that make a positive difference in the community and help end the cycle of violence.
  • Interview opportunities with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Presented by Verizon Wireless representatives City of Milwaukee Commissioner of Health Bevan K. Baker; Brian Pascoe of Verizon Wireless and/or representatives from benefiting agencies.
