TALLADEGA, AL — Gentleman, start your engines! For the hundreds of thousands of race fans descending on Talladega Superspeedway this weekend, Verizon Wireless is ready. With the one of the largest sporting events in the state of Alabama happening this weekend, Verizon Wireless is providing expanded coverage to customers with the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network in and around the superspeedway.

Thanks to a herd of COWs (Cell on Wheels) — four to be exact — recently installed around the venue, Verizon Wireless is ready and able to handle the anticipated high volume of voice and data calls during this weekend's events. Verizon Wireless COWs are self-contained mobile cell sites specifically designed for rapid and short-term response. These mobile cell sites can process thousands of calls an hour, enabling more emergency response teams and residents to use their wireless phones concurrently.

"At Verizon Wireless, we work year-round to ensure that our network is ready for anything, " said Jeff Mango, president — Alabama/Georgia Region for Verizon Wireless. "Whether it's an event with thousands of people in a concentrated area like this weekend or response to an emergency situation, we have the network, equipment and processes in place to quickly respond. Reliable communication is key for our customers and we work everyday to make sure they have the best coverage 24/7, where and when they need it."

Verizon Wireless has invested $37 billion in the last seven years - $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. To date in 2007, the company has invested over $100 million to expand and enhance its network across Alabama and Georgia and now is a great time to take the Verizon Wireless network for a Test Drive. Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier to offer a 30-day test drive of its network. If at any point during the 30-days a customer is not satisfied, they can take their number to another carrier and Verizon Wireless will refund their money for voice calls, equipment, activation fee and taxes, and release them from their customer contract without an early termination fee.
