ALBANY, NY — Verizon Wireless announced today it has submitted applications for three new cell sites to the Adirondack Park Agency as part of its efforts to provide continuous wireless service along the Northway corridor. The sites are located in the towns of Lewis, North Hudson and Schroon. Upon review and approval by the APA, and upon receipt of all required governmental approvals, the company can begin construction on these sites. The company is still identifying locations, negotiating leases, and completing pre-application preparations for eight other potential cell sites along the Northway.

"Submitting these three sites for APA review is the next step in our efforts to provide wireless coverage along the entire length of the Northway," said Marquett Smith, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York region. "We're making very good progress and are committed to getting all 11 sites up and running as quickly as we can. However, a project of this scope takes time and will not happen overnight."

Applications for the remaining Northway sites will be submitted after leases have been negotiated and the necessary pre-application preparations have been completed.

In April, Verizon Wireless joined with Governor Spitzer and local environmental groups to sign a Statement of Principles to enhance wireless service along the Northway. Verizon Wireless is the only wireless carrier that has publicly committed to building out its network along the Northway corridor.
