AUSTIN, TX — Game ticket? Check. Tailgating supplies? Orange enV phone? Check. Nation's most reliable wireless network? Check.

This season, Longhorn football fans have one less thing to worry about when heading to the game, thanks to Verizon Wireless. Before cheering "Texas Fight" or singing the "Eyes of Texas," Verizon Wireless customers can come early, be loud and stay late, knowing the nation's most reliable network is working overtime to provide enhanced coverage at home games.

Verizon Wireless recently activated a temporary cell site to increase capacity and enhance coverage in and around Darryl K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium during the 2007 football season.

The site was activated the day before the season home opener to boost coverage inside the stadium. During the home game against Texas Christian University on September 8, the site carried 800 percent more traffic than non-game days. Collectively, there are five sites that provide coverage in and around the University of Texas campus.

"Reliable communication is important when you are among 80,000 screaming Longhorn fans wanting to call a friend or share a picture message of the last big play," said Luis M. Cruz, region president for Verizon Wireless. "Verizon Wireless has the most reliable network in place to ensure our customers have coverage when and where they need it."

In 2006, Verizon Wireless invested more than $256 million in its Texas voice and data network. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $40 billion since it was formed -- more than $5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In 2006 the company invested $6.6 billion nationally, and in the first six months of this year has already invested $3.4 billion.
