Morganton, NC — Wireless users in North Carolina are now experiencing increased coverage in Morganton, thanks to new Verizon Wireless cell sites. Verizon Wireless customers will experience enhanced wireless coverage in the following areas:

  • Sterling Street
  • I-40 between Bethel Road and Enola Road
  • Eastern section of Morganton in Burke County

Enhanced coverage is part of Verizon Wireless' ongoing aggressive network investment to stay ahead of the growing demand in North Carolina for the company's voice and data services, including the popular text messaging, picture messaging, high-speed wireless NationalAccess Internet access and Get It Now® Ringtones, games, productivity applications and more.

In an industry first, Verizon Wireless is putting customers in the driver's seat to take the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network for a spin. Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier with a 30-day network Test Drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer is not satisfied with Verizon Wireless and switches to another carrier.

The enhancement in and around Morganton is part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in North Carolina. In 2006, Verizon Wireless invested $146 million to build, maintain and expand its high-quality network, and since 2003, the company has spent $531 million in North Carolina to ensure network reliability and expanded coverage and capacity. In the first six months of 2007, the company spent $110 million on improving North Carolina's network.

Verizon Wireless tests its network and those of its competitors to ensure that Verizon Wireless' network remains the nation's most reliable. Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and women drive 91 specially equipped vehicles nearly one million miles annually on state, interstate and U.S. highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas, based on U.S. Census counts, to determine if voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 3 million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
