CORNELIUS, NC — Wireless users in Cornelius are now experiencing increased coverage thanks to a new Verizon Wireless cell site, bringing customers the best in wireless voice and data services. Verizon Wireless customers will immediately experience enhanced coverage in the following areas:
- Throughout the Peninsula community and along Jetton Road
- Along West Catawba Avenue from I-77 to Westmoreland Road
The recent network enhancement enables more Verizon Wireless customers to use their wireless phones to make calls, send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages, access the Internet and download games and ringtones while enjoying superior wireless coverage.
"We are excited to bring better service to this area and meet the needs of our growing customer base as we continue to optimize our network so that it remains the nation's most reliable network," said Jerry Fountain, president of the Carolinas/Tennessee region for Verizon Wireless. "Our expansion in Cornelius and throughout Mecklenburg County is tied to our commitment to provide the best possible wireless experience for our customers as they choose and use our service."
In an industry first, Verizon Wireless puts customers in the driver's seat to take the nation's most reliable wireless network for a spin. The company is the only major carrier with a 30-day network Test Drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier.
Verizon Wireless builds its network for reliability during emergencies. For example, 100% percent of Verizon Wireless' cell sites in North Carolina are prepared for a natural disaster or other emergency, which includes back-up battery power at every site, generators at switching facilities and many cell sites, a fleet of mobile generators and cells on wheels.
Verizon Wireless has invested more than $815 million in its wireless network in North Carolina since 2000 to stay ahead of the growth in demand for the company's products and services, to ensure the most reliable network in the industry and to add new capabilities, like wireless Internet access at broadband speeds and mobile music downloads.
The company has invested more than $44 billion since 2000 when the company was formed $5 billion on average every year to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services.

EDITORS NOTE: Test Man Ride-Along Program for the News Media
Specially equipped Verizon Wireless test vehicles simultaneously test the Verizon Wireless network as well as the networks of as many as seven other wireless providers, using a mobile laptop computer to generate phonically diverse "conversations." If one of your reporters is interested in setting up an interview or ride-along test drive with your locally-based Verizon Wireless test man or woman, please contact Carly Culbertson.
