NASHVILLE, TN — Verizon Wireless and Vanderbilt University today announced a two-year sponsorship agreement designating Verizon Wireless as the official wireless provider of the Commodore athletics program. According to the multi-year agreement, Verizon Wireless will provide Commodore Athletics with all of their wireless needs to enable the coaches and teams to stay connected.

"Our partnership with Verizon Wireless will enable us to better serve our hardworking teams, as well as our dedicated fans with clear, reliable wireless service," said Rod Williamson, Director of External Affairs — Athletics at Vanderbilt University. Williamson continues, "This new technological boost will enhance the experience for everyone in our athletic program."

Through this contract, the Commodores will grant Verizon Wireless exclusive marketing and promotional rights, as well as the recognition of being the "Official Wireless Partner of Vanderbilt Athletics." The two-year deal, which is to begin at the onset of the 2008 football season and run through 2010, will provide Commodore teams, coaches and fans with excellent Verizon Wireless services and products. From updates on Vanderbilt athletics via text message to coverage of the sporting events online, Verizon Wireless' focus will be on keeping the Commodore family in touch and up-to-date. Verizon Wireless has sponsored Vanderbilt Athletics since 2004.

"Our sponsorship of the Commodore Athletics Program serves only to further Verizon Wireless' commitment to the Vanderbilt community, as well as to the greater Nashville community as a whole," said Jerry Fountain, president of the Carolinas/Tennessee region of Verizon Wireless. "For years, Verizon Wireless has been a big supporter of college athletics, and we are very excited to extend our family into the welcoming Vanderbilt community."

Commodore fans can enjoy real-time football game coverage — whether seated in Vanderbilt Stadium and Dudley Field, or with their cellphones anywhere across the country. Verizon Wireless' ESPN MVP VCAST application keeps sports fans connected to their favorite teams and players and provides fanatics direct access to the most extensive mobile sports content. With ESPN MVP, users can get live Gamecast play-by-play action on their cell phone, as well as manage their fantasy football team, view news articles and listen to commentary from ESPN columnists. Fans can also register for alerts and highlights of the big game to be sent to their Verizon Wireless cellphones.
