TAMPA, FL — The Verizon Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Family Justice Center of Hillsborough County (FJCHC) to continue helping victims of domestic abuse throughout the Tampa Bay community.
The latest donations will bring Verizon’s total contribution to more than $300,000 for the FJCHC during the past four years.
Pam Tope, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless, and Michelle Robinson, south region president of Verizon Communications, will present a $20,000 check on Wednesday, October 1 at Joe Chillura Park in downtown Tampa to FJCHC officials. Local dignitaries also will participate in the check presentation ceremony.
“Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications define the meaning of good corporate citizens,” said Nikki Daniels, executive director of the FJCHC. “Only through sustained support like this are we able to serve the many victims of domestic violence and their families right here in our communities.”
The FJCHC provides comprehensive services in the effort against domestic violence, with 40 law enforcement, social service and other agencies working together under one roof.
“We are committed to the communities we serve, and strongly believe in empowering organizations such as the Family Justice Center of Hillsborough County that are making a positive difference everyday,” said Pam Tope, Florida region president for Verizon Wireless. “Being able to devote our resources to this great organization and its efforts is both gratifying and extremely humbling.”
The company supports a variety of initiatives targeting domestic violence, including the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program. Through HopeLine, more than 5.3 million wireless phones have been collected to benefit domestic violence victims, and more than $5.6 million has been contributed to support agencies across the country.
