OVERLAND PARK, KS — Verizon Wireless has awarded a $3,000 grant to each of five domestic violence organizations in the Kansas City area. The grants were given to Friends of Yates, Inc., Hope House, SAFEHOME, Synergy Services and The Rose Brooks Center and will be used to support their outreach programs.

“Verizon Wireless has a strong history of supporting programs committed to raising awareness and breaking the cycle of domestic violence in our community,” said Lou Sigillo, president–Kansas/Missouri region, Verizon Wireless. “We’re proud to assist these organizations with their efforts to help women and children affected by domestic violence.”

Friends of Yates, Inc., through the Joyce H. Williams Center for Battered Women and Children, helps women and their dependent children take a big step toward a violence-free future by providing families with counseling, therapy and educational services.

Hope House is Missouri’s largest domestic violence organization. Over the past 25 years, Hope House programs and services have expanded to include outreach therapy, court and hospital-based advocacy, and professional training on domestic violence for various disciplines.

SAFEHOME was Johnson County’s first shelter for victims of domestic violence in 1984. SAFEHOME offers a 10-week shelter program for women, as well as specialized programs for children and outreach counseling services.
Synergy Services, Inc. provides intervention emergency shelter, crisis hotlines, residential services, advocacy, mentoring, therapeutic services and prevention education to adults, youth and children in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.

The Rose Brooks Center provides a full continuum of care that also includes innovative prevention programming, crisis intervention and support services. The continuum includes an emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis line, outreach therapy and several other services.
