ASHEVILLE, NC — Wireless customers in Buncombe County are now experiencing expanded voice and data coverage thanks to the addition of two new cell sites from Verizon Wireless, builder and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network.*

The new cell sites improve 3G coverage and call capacity for Asheville customers in the following areas:

  • Along Interstate 26/US19/US23 between exits 23 and 21 and in surrounding communities.
  • Highway 19/23 from Interstate 40 to Sand Hill Road and Interstate 40 from exit 44 to mile marker 40.

The recent network enhancement enables more Verizon Wireless customers to use their wireless phones to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access high-speed broadband Internet; and download games and ringtones while enjoying superior wireless coverage.

BroadbandAccess offers computer users the nation's most reliable high-speed wireless mobile broadband network, operating at average upload speeds between 500 and 800 kilobits per second (kbps), and download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 megabits per second (mbps) over Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess with Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) network. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones.

"We continue to look for ways to improve our service for customers in Asheville. By continually investing our network, we can maintain excellent call quality and provide the best wireless service available," said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless' Carolinas/Tennessee Region.

Verizon Wireless builds its network for reliability during emergencies. For example, 100 percent of Verizon Wireless' cell sites in North Carolina are prepared for a natural disaster or other emergency, which includes back-up battery power at every site, generators at switching facilities and many cell sites, a fleet of mobile generators and Cells on Wheels.

The company has invested more than $45 billion in its wireless network ever since the company was formed in 2000. Of that amount, more than $890 million has been invested in North Carolina, helping Verizon Wireless stay ahead of the growing demand for its services, like the new Nationwide Unlimited Anytime Minute calling plans, adding new capabilities like V CAST Mobile TV and improving and maintaining the network year-round in preparation for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

To meet customers' growing demand for wireless products and services in this growing community, Verizon Wireless products are available at the following retail locations:

Asheville
242 Tunnel Road
Asheville, NC 28805
(828) 251-2335

South Asheville
225 Airport Road
Arden, NC 28704
(828) 684-9140

Other examples of company leadership include being first to offer nationwide plans with unlimited calling and the only provider to offer a 30-day network Test Drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier.
