ORANGEBURG, NY — Consumers who plan to give the gift of wireless this holiday season can double that gift by bringing their old wireless phones to Verizon Wireless Communications Stores throughout New York and New Jersey and donating them to the company's HopeLine® phone recycling program.

HopeLine collects wireless phones and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider, and then refurbishes or recycles them in an environmentally-sound way. Proceeds from the HopeLine program benefit local domestic violence survivors by providing wireless phones and service to victims and financial grants to groups fighting to end the violence.

"HopeLine provides all of us with an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of families who have the right to feel safe at home during the holidays and all year long." said Pat Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro region. "Donating your old phone to HopeLine could be the most valuable gift you give this holiday season."

A recognized corporate leader for its commitment to preventing domestic violence and raising awareness of the issue, Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle old cell phones and has done so since January 1999. Nationally, the HopeLine program has collected more than 5.3 million wireless phones and given nearly more than $5.6 million in cash grants and more than 80,000 phones with airtime to domestic violence prevention organizations. In the New York area, Verizon Wireless has donated $1 million in products, services and cash grants since 2001, including 1,500 wireless phones.

In addition to a successful phone recycling program and funding for domestic violence prevention organizations, HopeLine includes free voice mailboxes for survivors, community and corporate awareness initiatives and a bilingual "Invest in Yourself" program designed to help survivors re-enter the workforce.

Wireless phones and accessories can be donated at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store throughout New York and Northern New Jersey and across the nation.
