BASKING RIDGE, NJ — In 2008, Verizon Wireless invested more than $130 million in its employee training programs. Today, that investment and the company’s continued commitment to employee development is being recognized by Training magazine in its annual “Training Top 125.” This is the eighth consecutive year Verizon Wireless has been recognized for its training and development programs.

Verizon Wireless, jointly with its parent company Verizon Communications, ranked 15th on this year’s list. Verizon Wireless provides employees with the training, resources and educational development opportunities they need to provide customers with the nation’s best wireless network, customer service and sales experience.

In addition to ongoing training sessions tied to new product and service launches and training for new employees, Verizon Wireless also invests in unique programs that help employees grow professionally, including role-based training, employee podcasting and customer education Webinars.

Verizon Wireless also offers tuition assistance, through which employees receive the company’s contribution upfront without any initial cash outlay required from the student, to help employees further develop their careers. Many companies offer tuition reimbursement, which requires an initial employee cash outlay. Verizon Wireless’ tuition support of up to $8,000.00 per year is above the industry average. Most companies cap annual tuition reimbursement at $5,250.00 or less for tax purposes.

Verizon Wireless has an impressive 18 percent participation rate in its tuition assistance program. Many who completed degree programs have been promoted or made lateral moves to other departments to advance their careers within Verizon Wireless, opening up new career opportunities.

Verizon Wireless encourages employees who participate in training courses to provide feedback on the sessions they attend. Following are quotes received from employees over the past year:

  • “The workforce development courses offered by Verizon Wireless assisted in the achievement of my personal and professional goals.”
  • “Once again Verizon Wireless is going above and beyond to equip us with the skills and abilities to be SUCCESSFUL!!!”
  • “The online course was delivered in a very interesting and informational manner. I was able to take what I learned and apply it to my daily interactions with our customers.”
  • “This was the most effective/worthwhile workshop of this nature I’ve attended. It provided practical solutions to address everyday management & leadership challenges. My first day back at work, I began working on implementation of the action plan created in class. This workshop helped change my perspective, in ways that will make me a much more effective leader.”

Training magazine, the training industry’s premiere publication, annually honors organizations based on in-depth analyses of qualitative and quantitative elements of training programs.

Verizon Wireless currently employs 85,000 employees nationwide and is consistently honored for its employee-friendly policies. For more information, visit www.verizonwireless.com.
