LITTLE ROCK, AR — Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the most reliable voice and data network, announced today it is sponsoring the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s “Pops on the River” event on July 4. Verizon Wireless invites all Arkansans to come out and celebrate our freedom with an evening of beautiful music, exciting contests, giveaways and a spectacular fireworks display during the 26th-annual event at the Riverfest Amphitheatre.

Those in attendance will have a chance to win prizes, including new Verizon Wireless phones and accessories, picnic blankets and T-shirts, while supplies last. A highlight of the evening will be a text-to-win contest. Throughout the evening, attendees will be prompted to text a key word announced during the event to a specific number. Those who enter the contest will receive a text message alerting them if they’ve won a prize. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the Verizon Wireless tent for a chance to view the products and services.

Additionally, Verizon Wireless will be collecting no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to help support its HopeLine® initiative. HopeLine is a program that collects and donates wireless phones and equipment to victims of domestic violence, as well as cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.

As our nation celebrates its 233rd birthday, it’s a great time to come together for what promises to be a truly memorable evening of fellowship, food, music and, of course, fireworks.

“We’re proud to be the sponsor of ‘Pops on the River’ this Fourth of July,” said Steve Smith, south central region president for Verizon Wireless. “It’s a great event for families to come together to celebrate Independence Day, while joining with us to help end the widespread problem of domestic violence.”

Verizon Wireless brand ambassadors will be on hand in a tent adjacent to the main stage to distribute text-to-win prizes and accept donations for HopeLine. Attendees who donate phones or accessories will receive a HopeLine picnic blanket or a Verizon Wireless T-shirt. “Pops on the River” will be held Saturday, July 4 at the Riverfest Amphitheatre. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and general admission is free. In addition to fireworks and a concert by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, attendees can enjoy a performance by the Happy Tymes Jazz Band and witness the “Oh, say! Can you SING?” competition finals.
