ESTELLA, OK — Can you hear me now? In Craig County, the answer is an emphatic “yes.” A new advanced digital cell site located on South 4270 Road is providing improved Verizon Wireless voice, National Access data and Mobile Broadband data coverage to customers between the towns of Nowata and Vinita along U.S. Hwy. 60. The new cell site was completed this past June and represents an investment of over $170,000 in the area. This site complements another new cell site built in Vinita in May that cost nearly $99,000.

The two new sites utilize a virtual flow of 3G high-speed wireless broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) technology. The sites also support more advanced wireless services, such as V CAST – which provides customers the ability to stream video clips, play cutting-edge 3D games and download song tracks over the air; VZ Navigator(SM) – a location-based service offering maps, audible driving directions, traffic updates, gas station pricing; and the newest, most reliable Push To Talk technology.

In addition, customers using the company’s Mobile Broadband data service to remotely access their e-mail and calendars, the Internet and other information via wireless, can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. At those speeds, customers can upload or download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment – the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file – in less than two seconds. The new site is part of the company’s continuing investment to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network throughout the country. Already this year, Verizon Wireless and the former Alltel have combined to invest more than $15 million in Oklahoma to advance and expand network capabilities.
