PHILADELPHIA, PA — Verizon Wireless and Temple University Hospital today announced the completion of an extensive in-building solution that will enhance coverage and capacity for voice calls and access to Verizon Wireless' high-speed 3G network for the hospital community, including doctors, faculty, staff, students, patients and visitors.

The in-building solution improves wireless voice and high-speed data coverage for Verizon Wireless customers on every floor of campus buildings between Tioga and Ontario streets and Germantown Avenue and Broad Street, including Temple University Hospital's Outpatient Building, Park Avenue Building, the Emergency Room and Trauma Center, Parkinson Pavilion, Rock Pavilion and Boyer Pavilion. The enhancements also significantly improve connectivity for wireless calling, Web-browsing, e-mail, text and picture messaging in the facilities and offices in the basement levels of these buildings, where wireless signals previously had trouble penetrating the concrete walls.

"These enhancements have had an immediate impact to the hospital and will allow us to expand our wireless communications capabilities. Having access to a reliable network and the advanced technology it supports will ultimately help us enhance the care and services that we provide to our patients," said Frank R. Erdlen, Chief Information Officer, Temple University Physicians and Vice Dean for Information Technology, Temple University School of Medicine.

Verizon Wireless has been the exclusive wireless service provider to Temple University since 2005. Previous enhancements to the company's wireless network on Temple's campus included activating a cell site in 2007 that improved coverage throughout the Main Campus. In 2006, the company installed an in-building solution that enhanced coverage at the Liacouras Center to improve communications for the university's athletics staff and student athletes.

"We're thrilled to expand our relationship with the Temple community with this latest round of network improvements that will keep the University hospital's doctors connected seamlessly across campus and improve wireless communications capabilities for patients and visitors," said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State Region.
