LAFAYETTE, IN — Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Lafayette, which enables more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell site, which is equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, improves voice and data coverage on the east side of Lafayette and along the following major roads:

  • Interstate 65 between Eisenhower Road and County Road 100 S
  • State Road 26 between Creasy Lane and Pineview Lane

"Building new cell sites is just one aspect of our overall effort to increase the reliability of our network across Indiana," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "By actually test driving our network and monitoring usage every minute of every day, we can ensure we're making the right improvements to meet our customers' needs. This year, we're investing nearly $80 million to enhance our Indiana network."

These network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed-$5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Indiana.
