DEPAUW, IN — Verizon Wireless has activated two new cell sites in Depauw and Marengo, which enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell sites, which are each equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, improve voice and data coverage in Depauw, Marengo and Milltown in Harrison and Crawford counties and along the following major roads:

  • State Road 64 between State Road 337 and Miller Road
  • State Road 66 north of State Road 64 to Daugherty Lane and south to Pilot Knob Road

"Building new cell sites is just one aspect of our overall effort to increase the reliability of our network across Indiana," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "By actually test driving our network and monitoring usage every minute of every day, we can ensure we're making the right improvements to meet our customers' needs. This year, we're investing nearly $80 million to enhance our Indiana network."

These network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed-$5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Indiana.
