OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — To better serve the growing number of customers in the Oklahoma City area, Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the most reliable voice and data network, including the nation's largest wireless 3G broadband network, will celebrate the opening of seven new communications stores this week with ribbon-cutting ceremonies with members of the local Chamber of Commerce.

The locations, dates and times are:

  • Silver Springs: 7640 NW Expressway; Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m.
  • Edmond: 1501 S. Broadway; Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 a.m.
  • Westgate: 209 S. Macarthur Dr.; Friday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.
  • Midwest City: 7199 SE 29th St.; Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m.
  • Walnut Square: 2207 SW 74th St.; Friday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m.
  • Quail Springs: 2322 W. Memorial Rd.; Friday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.

A seventh new communications store, located at 5401 N. Pennsylvania Ave., will join these six stores in continuing the grand opening celebration throughout the weekend. Free food from various local restaurants, community organizations and fun activities will be happening at all seven locations.

These new stores offer consumers hands-on interaction with the latest wireless products and services, including Netbooks, the MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot and the BlackBerry® Tour™, with personalized service in a comfortable setting from knowledgeable wireless professionals. Customers will also be able to take advantage of special promotions including free phones and significant discounts on accessories during the grand-opening celebration.

"More customers in Oklahoma are choosing Verizon Wireless for the best wireless service and devices," says Ryan Granville, district manager for Verizon Wireless. "We are committed to providing the best network, products and services and customer service in the industry."

New stores are only a part of the company's efforts to add convenience for customers in Oklahoma. Verizon Wireless is also continually working to increase network capacity and coverage and enhance the overall customer wireless experience throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed-$5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Already this year, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $21 million in Oklahoma to advance and expand its network capabilities.

Former Alltel customers in Oklahoma County already have been added to the Verizon Wireless Mobile-to-Mobile Calling family, and may now call any of the more than 87 million customers without using their plan minutes. Customers also have access to high-value services such as Friends and Family® (formerly My Circle), providing them the ability to call any five or 10 numbers on any network for free.

Verizon Wireless is also encouraging all customers joining them in this weekend's celebration to donate their old wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any service provider to support HopeLine®, Verizon Wireless' domestic violence prevention initiative. Items collected at the store are then refurbished, with the proceeds going to various local and regional domestic violence shelters.

"Verizon Wireless works tirelessly to put a stop to domestic violence year-round," said Lucie Pathmann, public relations manager for Verizon Wireless. "Domestic Violence Awareness Month gives us a great opportunity to shine the light on a cause very close to our hearts at Verizon Wireless. Domestic violence touches all of us and this is an opportunity for everyone to support the victims."

Since HopeLine's national phone recycling and re-use program was launched in 2001, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 5.6 million phones and awarded more than $6.3 million in cash grants to domestic violence agencies and organizations throughout the country.

The store hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information about Verizon Wireless' products and services, please visit verizonwireless.com.
