SOUTH BEND, IN — Students, faculty and staff on the campus of St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., and visitors to the college, will benefit from a new cell site that Verizon Wireless has activated near campus.

The new system expands network coverage and increases capacity throughout the entire campus and improves signal penetration into area buildings. In addition, coverage is improved north from the campus to Interstate 80/90, south to West Angela Boulevard, east to State Road 933 and west to Portage Avenue.

“This new cell site was built to ensure that our customers in and around the St. Mary’s College campus can continue relying on their phones for everything from making calls and sending messages to surfing the Internet and getting e-mail,” said T.J. Fox, region president for Verizon Wireless. “The most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. That’s why we aggressively invest in our Indiana network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers and to continue to raise the bar in network reliability.”

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $55 billion since it was formed – $5.5 billion on average every year to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Since 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested $1.06 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Indiana.
