TREVOSE, PA — Verizon Wireless has named Randall Miller executive director of network for the Philadelphia Tri-State Region, a territory which includes central, northeastern and southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

In this position, Miller will be responsible for all aspects of network operations, engineering and system performance to meet the growing demand for the company’s wireless voice and data services in the region which allows more customers to use their wireless phones – including the latest, advanced smartphones – concurrently to make calls, surf the Internet, update social networking sites, send and receive text and picture messages, and download apps, music, and games. Previously, he served as executive director data services operations where he was responsible for the daily operation of the national Verizon Wireless core data network, data applications and services.

Miller began his 16-year wireless telecommunications career as a system performance engineer with Nynex Mobile Communications in New England. At the merger of Bell Atlantic with Nynex Mobile, Miller moved into management leading the system performance team in New England. Later, he assisted with the network integration of Frontier Cellular with Verizon Wireless as the director of performance and engineering in Rochester, NY.

Since that time, Miller has held different director level positions in Philadelphia as well as Verizon Wireless’ National Network Operations.

“Randy’s extensive knowledge and experience in the wireless industry brings additional depth to our region as we continue to invest in our 3G network to meet the needs of our growing customer base,” said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State region.

Miller will be responsible for the continued expansion and enhancement of the company’s wireless network across the region, including oversight of the company’s real life test men and women who proactively test the company’s network and those of its competitors to ensure the Verizon Wireless network remains the nations most reliable. He will also oversee the region’s launch of Long Term Evolution (LTE) fourth generation network launching later this year.

These network enhancements are part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Verizon Wireless invested more than $163 million to enhance services and in the Philadelphia Tri-State Region during 2009. The network investment is part of more than $1.3 billion invested in the region and more than $59 billion invested across the nation since the company was formed in 2000.

A Montgomery County Pa. resident, Miller holds a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a master’s of business administration from Rivier College.
