CLEVELAND, OH — Verizon Wireless today announced the selection of local artist Anna Arnold to create a mural installation inspired by gospel music and Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound program. Ms. Arnold’s public mural will reflect the essence of Cleveland and honor the role gospel music plays in uniting the community. It will also provide a lasting visual reminder of the company’s ongoing commitment to the city on behalf of Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound gospel music celebration and the search for the “Best Church Choir in America.”

“I am so honored to have the opportunity to share my art in such a public forum,” said Ms. Arnold. “My hope is that residents of Cleveland will see themselves and our city’s culture reflected in the mural.”

Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound mural initiative seeks to produce vibrant public art that will enhance, enliven and help beautify the local community, while supporting the overall tenets of the national choir competition. Muralists were selected for their ability to visually convey a concept that best represents the spirit of their city and that speaks to the gospel choir experience exemplified by How Sweet the Sound.

“Verizon Wireless is committed to this community. And, honoring local artists through Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound is just another opportunity to empower local talent and support programs that make a positive impact in the Cleveland area,” said Mark Frazier, president – Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. “We are thrilled to help create lasting connections to communities across the country through these mural installations.”

Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound is much more than a singing competition–it is an opportunity to capture the passion for gospel music in Cleveland and to celebrate the unique ways that music connects people within their community. The “Search for America’s Best Church Choir” comes to Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena on Sept. 24. Tickets are on sale now for only $5 and $7 to see the musical celebration starring emcee’s CeCe Winans and Donald Lawrence.
