WARWICK, RI, and WILMINGTON, MA — Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the largest, most reliable voice and 3G data network, today announced the opening of the company’s latest “green” Communications Store in Warwick, Rhode Island, located at 399 Bald Hill Road in the Warwick Commons shopping plaza.

Utilizing state-of-the-art design to improve energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions, indoor air quality and recycling processes, the store is a significant achievement in environmental building design and is expected to meet the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) criteria for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification. In addition, the rebuilt storefront is specifically designed to meet wind deflection, R-value insulating and UV reflection specifications given Warwick’s climate and proximity to weather generated by the Atlantic Ocean.

The 4,000 square foot “Evolution” store provides local residents and visitors with a convenient destination for all Verizon Wireless devices, accessories and support from the provider of the largest, most reliable 3G network in the country. Staffed by knowledgeable wireless professionals, the store provides consumers with the full array of Verizon Wireless products and services, including the entire line of DROID smartphones such as DROID 2 by Motorola, DROID X by Motorola, DROID Incredible by HTC, LG Ally™ and LG Fathom™, as well as BlackBerry® and Palm® smartphones, netbooks, Mi-Fi devices and accessories. Store hours are Monday through Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Sunday 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and the phone number is (401) 739-4100. Eric Lavoie is the store manager and will oversee operations for the location.

Like many local businesses and homeowners, Verizon Wireless’ previous store in Warwick Commons suffered extensive damage during the floods in late March of 2010. Verizon Wireless immediately responded to this crisis by deploying an Emergency Response Communications Vehicle (ERCV) to Warwick Commons to provide free wireless communications access in the storm’s immediate aftermath. The ERCV made available 30 wireless phones and a notebook computer from which local residents could make free calls and access the Internet. The company temporarily relocated its operations inside a brick-and-mortar location on the premises, and plans developed immediately to rebuild a new permanent state-of-the-art location at its previous site in just five months.

“We are excited by the opening of our first ‘green’ store in New England,” said Ken Dixon, president, Verizon Wireless, New England Region. "Although difficult to envision at the height of the flooding, just five months later we've completely rebuilt and upgraded to better serve customers and enhance the retail experience. The conservation measures employed in the design and operation of the Warwick Commons location will help protect the environment today and conserve resources for generations to come.”

A Device Specialist is available during store hours to provide technical support, as well as help demonstrate the features of each product to make sure every customer gets the right device based on their specific communications needs.

The Warwick Commons store also includes:

  • Interactive product and service demos available throughout the store
  • Integrated systems and operational enhancements designed to streamline the sales process and increase customer satisfaction
  • A check-in kiosk inviting customers to sign in on arrival and stay informed via monitors that track their place in the queue for service
  • Roomy and easy-to-locate technical assistance and customer support areas

Store Manager Eric Lavoie is encouraging area residents to join Verizon Wireless in its efforts to help survivors of domestic abuse by bringing no-longer-used wireless phones to the store for donation to the company’s HopeLine® phone recycling program. HopeLine collects used cell phones to be recycled or sold and donates the proceeds in the form of cash grants and pre-paid wireless phones to advocacy groups for use by survivors. Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle old cell phones, and has done so on behalf of survivors of domestic violence since 1999.
