BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and GERMANTOWN, MD — WeatherBug®, the leading provider of consumer and professional weather products and services and operator of the largest weather observing and lightning network, today announced the availability of the WeatherBug API (application programming interface) to application developers for building Mobile Web applications or BlackBerry® and Android™ applications for Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Apps store.

WeatherBug has worked with Verizon Wireless as its preferred and primary weather information provider for the past three years and has recently extended its relationship. WeatherBug is the exclusive or default weather provider on many Verizon platforms including Mobile Web, WAP, SMS, MMS and on the Verizon company website. The FiOS TV interactive WeatherBug Widget enables customers to customize weather reports by any ZIP code, and pull up hourly or seven-day forecasts and radar weather imagery to see how local conditions are developing.

WeatherBug is attending the Verizon Developer Community (VDC) Conference in Las Vegas, Sept. 21 and 22, to provide developers with information on the essential weather intelligence available only through the WeatherBug API. The API provides developers with access to a wide range of proprietary WeatherBug data, including information from over 8,000 weather observations stations in North America that provide current conditions, seven-day forecasts, radar, satellite, cameras, alerts and much more rich weather content.

“Verizon is proud to work with WeatherBug to continue to add value to our developer community and to our millions of consumers who rely on WeatherBug for providing the best and most reliable information possible,” said Jennifer Byrne, executive director, business development and partnerships for Verizon Wireless.

“WeatherBug is excited to be part of the VDC Conference again this year with Verizon. As their preferred weather partner, we continue to look for new ways to bring our very local, live weather information into more offerings. We have seen tremendous growth over the recent months on Verizon products, including BlackBerry® and Android devices, and we expect that growth to continue through more WeatherBug offerings, as well as through providing a solid API for the developer community,” said Chris Brozenick, vice president and general manager of WeatherBug Mobile.
