GREENWOOD, IN — The Domestic Violence Network (DVN) received a $10,000 donation today from the Verizon Foundation for its “Power of Images” project, a tribute to those who have died as a result of a domestic abuse.

The contribution will help the Indianapolis-based nonprofit expand the project in central Indiana and create more awareness and understanding about domestic abuse, further engaging the community to help those at risk and empowering businesses and others to take a stand against domestic violence.

Verizon Wireless employees at the Greenwood Verizon Wireless Communications Store presented the donation to Julie Marsh, the chief executive officer of DVN.

“The Power of Images project provides an honest and candid conversation starter for those who may be struggling in silence about domestic abuse,” said Neil Krevda, Indiana director of governmental affairs for Verizon Communications. “Encouraging people to come forward and speak up can change lives. The Verizon Foundation and Verizon employees are proud to be part of the continuing success of this important program.”

The banners have been continuously on display since their unveiling last October. They memorialize and honor Valeri Adamson, Brittany March, Susan Moulder, Heather Norris, Kent Crawford, Anthony Willis, April Wills, Beth Stayer, Angela Warnock, Michelle Gifford, Yvonne Bostick and Kelly Roome. The honorees’ images, comments and quotes capture the essence of a life lost and the impact that person’s death has had on family, friends and community.

“These traveling banners have created a stirring in the community,” said Marsh. “These individuals have humanized the issue of domestic violence.”

DVN serves an estimated 100,000 women and 30,000 men in central Indiana of all ages, races and socioeconomic levels.

With the Verizon Foundation grant, DVN officials will be able to offer the traveling education project to businesses, churches and educational institutions with new added digital media components.

During the next 12 months, DVN plans to extend the project to at least 30 locations to reach up to 30,000 viewers and add online links for video. Volunteer project presenters will also be recruited to work directly with the content and identify an audience that includes survivors, those at risk and the community at large.
