ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Verizon Wireless and the University of New Mexico Athletics invite fans to go ‘green’ and help curb domestic violence in the community at the same time.

Fans attending the Lobos’ homecoming football game against UTEP on Saturday, Oct. 2 can donate their used wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine®  phone recycling program. Drop boxes will be located at the entrances on the northeast, northwest, southwest and southeast corners of University Stadium.

About HopeLine
Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program collects no-longer used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any wireless service provider at its Communications Stores nationwide and puts the nation’s most reliable wireless network to work in local communities by turning these unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“The Lobos are pleased to join Verizon Wireless once again for such a worthy cause,” said Paul Krebs, UNM Vice-President for Athletics. “We encourage fans to embrace this endeavor and help us make a positive difference in the community.”

“We applaud Lobos fans for helping make a difference by raising awareness of domestic violence and doing a good thing for the environment by keeping old wireless phones out of landfills,” said Brian Danfield, regional president for Verizon Wireless.

This is the seventh season UNM Athletics and Verizon Wireless have teamed up for a special collection.

Equipment can also be donated to the HopeLine program year-round at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store across the country or through the mail by downloading a postage-paid label at www.verizonwireless.com/hopelinemailinglabel.
