Walnut Creek, CA — Fans attending the fourth annual Treasure Island Music Festival taking place October 16 and 17, 2010, will be able to stay connected to their favorite artists and bands before, during and after the festival. Verizon Wireless is offering consumers the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the festival through a variety of mobile activities and custom technology platforms.

On-site, Verizon Wireless will give select festival attendees the chance to meet The National and/or Ra Ra Riot. In order to win meet and greet passes, fans should follow @verizoninsider on Twitter. In addition, Twitter followers can learn how to win tickets to Treasure Island Music Festival and the Treasure Island Night Show with Rogue Wave, taking place on Saturday, October 16, at The Independent in San Francisco. Rogue Wave will also be signing autographs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, at the Verizon Wireless store on Market Street in San Francisco.

At the festival, Verizon Wireless customers who stop by the tent will be given a special code to download free ringtones by performing bands The National, Ra Ra Riot, Rogue Wave, Deadmau5, and Belle and Sebastian that can be downloaded onto almost any Verizon Wireless phone. A limited number of downloads will be available. Additionally, Verizon Wireless customers will be able charge their phones and draw on a digital, touch screen Graffiti Wall, complete with music-themed stencils. Their creations will be sent directly to their Verizon Wireless phone or e-mail.

To supplement Treasure Island Music Festival’s green initiative, festival-goers can donate their no longer used wireless phones and accessories to the HopeLine® from Verizon program at the festival. Recycling phones through HopeLine is a simple way to keep old wireless equipment out of the waste stream, while supporting domestic violence prevention programs. Phones are either refurbished for reuse, or those that are not salvageable are recycled in an environmentally sound way under a zero landfill policy. Every 5,000 phones recycled saves 11,000-kilowatt hours of energy – enough energy to power one U.S. household with electricity for a year. Fans who bring items to recycle will have the chance to win a Samsung Fascinate and a $125 Verizon Wireless gift card.

Festival-goers who visit the Verizon tent at the Treasure Island Music Festival will also learn more about the final Coffee Shop Music Series event of 2010. Verizon’s Coffee Shop Music Series began earlier this year in partnership with San Francisco’s vibrant coffee shop community and gives music fans free access to exclusive concerts.
