BUFFALO, NY — In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Verizon Wireless will unveil a mural celebrating Hispanic culture and lifestyle in La Salle Park in Buffalo. The mural was designed by artist Erika Pochybova-Johnson as part of Verizon Wireless’ “The Pride of Our Heritage” mural contest.
The Buffalo mural is one of seven murals chosen via public online voting that will be unveiled across the Northeast this month. The winning designs will also be featured in a national arts magazine. Ms. Pochybova-Johnson and the other winning artists will each receive $500 in art supplies and a Samsung Fascinate smartphone.
“The Hispanic community is a very large, vibrant and important component of the fabric of the Buffalo area,” said Russ Preite, president of Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region. “The ‘Pride of Our Heritage’ mural contest allows new voices to celebrate the richness of the Hispanic-American experience, as well as their traditional culture and lifestyles. This is also a great opportunity for a creative person to make a significant and positive mark in the neighborhood that will be appreciated by all residents.”
This Hispanic Heritage Mural Contest is one of a variety of educational and diversity programs supported by Verizon Wireless.
