EL PASO, TX — Wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Web on the Verizon Wireless high-speed 3G network is now easier and faster in West Texas thanks to two new cell sites added in the first quarter. The sites expand 3G wireless coverage and capacity:

  • In and around Indian Cliffs Ranch and along San Felipe northeast of Interstate 10; and
  • Along US Route 62 into Hudspeth County.

The company’s ongoing network investment in El Paso, Texas and New Mexico now totals more than $375 million, including $70 million in 2010. Since the company was formed, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $65 billion – $6 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.

Also in the first quarter, Verizon Wireless completed integrating its network with that of Alltel across El Paso County to provide customers with a 30 percent increase in cell sites, clearer reception, fewer dropped calls and more coverage, including stronger in-building coverage.

Verizon Wireless also recently announced that it is bringing the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to El Paso by the end of the year.
