PANAMA CITY, FL — Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless company with the largest, most reliable voice and data network, has activated a new advanced digital cell site near the new Panama City International Airport to enhance wireless services, coverage and capabilities for travelers, businesses and residents in the area.

The new Verizon Wireless technology also will strengthen coverage along County Road 388 in northern Panama City.  The site further enhances the nation’s most advanced 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) high-speed broadband network to enhance customer experiences in making voice calls, sending e-mails, text and picture messages, connecting to the internet and accessing tens of thousands of applications, games, video, music and many other features from their phone, notebook, netbook, tablet or other wireless device.

The Verizon Wireless 3G network already covers about 98 percent of Florida’s population and land mass, and will provide customers with high-speed wireless services for many years to come.  In addition, Verizon Wireless recently launched its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in several Florida markets, and is scheduled to cover all of Florida with 4G LTE by the end of 2013.

The new cell site reinforces the already strong 3G coverage throughout Panama City, and also has been prepared to be fitted with 4G LTE technology when those advanced services eventually expand into this area.

The project is part of Verizon Wireless’ ongoing investment to provide customers in North Florida, and throughout the state, with the most advanced wireless coverage and services.  Since the company formed in 2000, more than $2.2 billion has been invested to keep enhancing Verizon Wireless coverage and services for customers throughout Florida. Nationally, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $65 billion to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services since the company’s inception.
