Through HopeLine, Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider. The phones are then refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way. Refurbished phones, pre-programmed to dial 911 in case of an emergency, are donated along with 3,000 minutes of wireless service to local domestic violence organizations, local government officials and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients. Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle used cell phones, and has done so on behalf of survivors of domestic violence since January 1999 – first in New York and then across the U.S. For store locations and to learn how to donate a phone using a postage-paid mailing label, visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
Jersey Battered Women’s Service, is a non-profit organization in Morris County that provides a range of life-saving and life-rebuilding services to victims of domestic violence and their families.
For the past 22 years, Morristown has hosted an annual footrace for employee teams from New Jersey corporations. Verizon has sponsored the race since 2006 as part of its commitment to employee health and wellness. The company operates 43 in-house Health and Wellness Centers throughout the country to provide Verizon employees with fitness equipment and health programs, including nutrition, smoking cessation classes, aerobics, yoga classes, flu shots, mammography screenings and more.
“As of now, we have 1,378 Verizon employees and family members registered, a true testimonial of our corporate culture to promote employee health and wellness,” said Mark Monteyne, national fitness center head coach for Verizon Wireless.
