INDIAHOMA, OK — Verizon Wireless has deployed a temporary cell site, or Cell on Light Truck (COLT), to Indiahoma, Oklahoma in Comanche County to support communications as fire fighters battle a forest fire in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge that started September 1.

In addition to deploying a COLT to the wildlife refuge area, Verizon Wireless is supplying emergency personnel with phones and air cards to aid in their communications.

A COLT is a fully-functional, mobile cell site that enhances wireless coverage and capacity in a given area, supplementing Verizon Wireless’ nationwide voice and data network. This mobile 60-foot tower is housed within a light truck and is designed specifically for rapid response in emergency situations.

Verizon Wireless operates the nations fastest; most advanced 4G network and largest, most reliable 3G network. The company launched its 4G LTE network in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas in December 2010 and in Tulsa and surrounding areas in July 2011. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $65 billion in its wireless network since it was formed, an average of $6 billion every year, to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.
