WILKES-BARRE, PA — In the wake of heavy rains caused by Tropical Storms Lee, Katia, and Irene, which caused widespread evacuations and massive flooding across the Wilkes-Barre area, Verizon Wireless has coordinated with the City to provide a mobile communications center to help residents contact family, friends and loved ones.

The 53-foot trailer offers free domestic and international long distance calling, 110V outlets for charging cell phones and other electronic devices, and internet access. The Verizon Mobile Communications Center is located at 278 S. Sherman Street in Wilkes-Barre, and will be open to public beginning Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The facility arrived on site Friday, September 9, and will remain at this location until at least Tuesday.
