BASKING RIDGE, NJ and PALO ALTO, CA — Bringing the freedom of choice to the world of enterprise IT, Verizon Wireless and VMware, Inc. today announced a strategic partnership to introduce to the market VMware Horizon Mobile™, enabling Verizon Wireless business subscribers to gain the freedom to choose a single Android™ device for both professional and personal use.

VMware Horizon Mobile will provide a simple way for IT departments to securely provision, manage and de-provision a corporate mobile workspace (email, applications, data, etc.) to an employee’s Android device over-the-air, while enabling the employee to retain the privacy and control of their personal mobile environments. Unlike other mobile solutions that require customized application development, enterprises and public organizations using VMware Horizon Mobile will be able to access and leverage the more than 250,000 applications available in the Android Market™.

“‘Bring your own device’ into the enterprise is an increasingly important and challenging dynamic in today’s enterprises,” said Janet Schijns, vice president, Business Solutions Group, Verizon Wireless. “Verizon Wireless and VMware are delivering a compelling new mobile security and management experience leveraging our most reliable 3G and 4G LTE network along with the proven virtualization and cloud computing platform leadership of VMware to address this enterprise trend. Our enterprise customers can look forward to reduced expenses and increased employee latitude all in a secure environment – proving once again that the employee with the best technology rules.”

“Mobile devices are fast becoming the primary way people stay connected at work and in their personal lives,” said Steve Herrod, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Research and Development, VMware. “Our partnership with Verizon Wireless to deliver VMware Horizon Mobile will let companies embrace the ‘bring your own device’ trend by providing the security and control required by the enterprise with the freedom of choice sought by employees.”

To bring this solution to the market, Verizon Wireless and VMware are working with a growing ecosystem of partners. Among these various partners, LG Electronics will be one of the first to offer mobile devices, tested and ready for use with VMware Horizon Mobile on the Verizon Wireless network.

“The partnership between Verizon Wireless and VMware is a testament to the importance of dual persona capability in securely providing consumers both their work and personal mobile environments on a single device,” said Ki S. Kim, corporate vice president and head of the Global Enterprise Mobility Solutions (B2B) at LG Electronics. “As the first manufacturer to embrace mobile virtualization via VMware’s Horizon Mobile, we are looking forward to offering LG’s Privacy & Business (P&B) on Verizon Wireless’ network to address the growing ‘bring your own device to work’ trend within the enterprise.”

Solutions using VMware Horizon Mobile are expected to be available on Verizon Wireless smartphones in the coming months.
