ATLANTA, GA — In recognition of Veterans Day, Verizon Wireless and the Atlanta Falcons will honor local military heroes during a halftime presentation at Sunday’s Atlanta Falcons’ game against the New Orleans Saints. As part of the celebration, 52 World War II war veterans will take the field accompanied by the National Guard, where they will be honored for their courageous efforts during the war. The WWII tribute will also include two videos that show actual footage from the war and that pay homage to the lives sacrificed. Additionally, 61,000 cards will be placed under the seats in the Georgia Dome containing a thank you message to veterans.

To further extend its support for Georgia military members, Verizon Wireless will announce its Top Gun Presenting Sponsorship for The Wingman Foundation’s Ultimate Wingman Georgia Military Heroes banquet, to be held in 2012. During this event several special heroes will be honored for being wingmen to our country. The recognized soldiers will be awarded with customized award packages as a way to thank the wingmen for their services. The Wingman Foundation, founded by decorated fighter pilot Lt. Col. Rob “Waldo” Waldman, was established to recognize and reward our military heroes in a unique and memorable way while raising money for non-profits who support veterans in need and their families.

“Our soldiers risk their lives to protect our country and our freedom, and this is a great opportunity to be able to show our support and let them know how much we appreciate everything they do for our country,” said Jonathan LeCompte, president, Georgia/Alabama Region, Verizon Wireless. “To help express our appreciation, we’re excited and honored to partner with the Wingman Foundation on this remarkable event recognizing outstanding military heroes in Georgia.”

As the official wireless provider for the Atlanta Falcons, Verizon Wireless works closely with the organization to support their on the field and off the field initiatives.
