COLUMBUS, GA — To better serve its customers, Verizon Wireless has relocated its North Columbus retail store to a new, greatly expanded, state-of-the-art building at 6783 Veterans Pkwy in Columbus. The new store, one of the largest in Georgia and also the first in the state to achieve LEED certification, offers consumers a more high-tech, hands-on experience, providing them with the latest and most innovative products and services. The store is open for business and will host a ribbon cutting with the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m., followed by an Open House for area businesses and consumers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where leading smartphone and tablet vendors will be present to answer questions and discuss their latest products.

The North Columbus Verizon Wireless store features the company’s new open floor plan concept that removes the walls between the service area and sales floor, making the entire store one department designed to streamline the sales process and enhance the customer experience. The 4,000-square-foot store showcases a highly interactive retail concept, and offers consumers a more high tech, hands-on experience, providing them with the latest and most innovative products and services. Among the new store’s features are:

  • An open Demo Zone where customer interaction is guided by a product-savvy sales staff, and where customers can get a sense of the look and feel of a broad range of equipment and services.
  • Oversized high-definition plasma screens showcasing the latest wireless multimedia applications such as V CAST and Get It Now®.
  • More than 65 working models of smartphones, tablets, netbooks and other devices for customers to handle and test.
  • Tablet check-in that enables customers to electronically keep their place in line while browsing the store. When they talk with a representative their account background and reason for visiting the store will already be keyed up on the customer-service computer.
  • Bill Payment Kiosks that enables customers to pay their bills quickly and easily using checks, cash or credit/debit cards.
  • Two consultations tables for one-on-one demos and device training sessions.

Verizon Goes Green with New Eco-Friendly Store
The North Columbus store achieved its LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) using the LEED Commercial Interiors rating system. To qualify, the store diverted 24 tons of waste from landfills and used 20 percent (by cost) of recycled content for materials during construction. The store is also equipped with 86 percent of Energy Star certified equipment that will help save an average of 27,800 gallons of water per year and 12,400 k/Wh of energy per year from lighting. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

“The new store in Columbus is double the size of the previous location, offering a greatly expanded space for both shopping and customer service,” said Jonathan LeCompte, president –Verizon Wireless Georgia/Alabama Region. “In addition to being able to provide our customers with a knowledgeable staff and the latest and most advanced wireless devices on the market, we’re extremely proud to also offer them an eco-friendly retail environment to shop in.”
