BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Verizon LTE Innovation Center, created to foster and advance the work of the next generation of wireless technology, earned World Class status from the Association of Briefing Program Managers (ABPM). Presented during the 19th ABPM Spring Conference in Boston on March 29, Verizon’s program marks the first time an innovation center has won this award.

The Verizon LTE Innovation Center, located in Waltham, Mass., encourages meaningful, creative relationships among its more than 100 participant companies. Since its opening day in July 2011, the Verizon LTE Innovation Center has hosted dozens of companies and hundreds of other visitors from around the world to discuss technology questions and rapidly develop, test and prototype nearly 100 4G LTE-enabled products. More than a dozen of these non-traditional, 4G LTE-enabled products that began at the Verizon LTE Innovation Center are now available to customers, with many more in the pipeline.

“We have created an environment that promotes the kind of collaboration necessary to connect people, world-class ideas and to push the boundaries of wireless connectivity,” said David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless. “Recognition of our program by ABPM is a testament to the focus, energy and innovation that happens at our LTE Innovation Center every day.”

Previous winners of ABPM’s prestigious World Class recognition include Apple, Ericsson and Cisco. To be awarded this status, a program must meet all World Class characteristics set forth by the ABPM Advisory Board. The ABPM’s mission is to foster the success of its members by facilitating the exchange of information, developing briefing professionals, defining standards of excellence and delivering innovative programs and resources. Projects deemed to be World Class will inform the design of future centers, going beyond currently conventional methods and exploring new theories, ideas and approaches to architecture, interior design and branding.

“Verizon’s LTE Innovation Center adds a compelling dimension to a traditional briefing center by combining innovation labs and customer briefings to create a next-generation, discussion-led experience,” said Roxanne McCreery, president of ABPM. “Every aspect of the customer experience – from the stunning entrance façade to the display of visionary devices in the Piazza – serves as a source of inspiration and education.”

At the Verizon LTE Innovation Center, Verizon engineers, technology partners, innovators, entrepreneurs, industry associations and customers work together to create real-world, everyday solutions that harness the speed and power of Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Comprised of traditional briefing space, technical labs and flexible product showcases, the Verizon LTE Innovation Center integrates LEED Gold architectural design, interior design infused with technology, state-of-the-art interactive media, compelling product showcases and innovative brand messaging to provide visitors a unique, engaging experience.

The Verizon LTE Innovation Center was designed by the architecture firm Nelson, in collaboration with Downstream. John Moriarty & Associates (JMA) was the construction firm. Other companies that contributed to the Verizon LTE Innovation Center include Whitlock, Cavanaugh Tocci Associates and TDK.
