BIRMINGHAM, AL — Verizon Wireless today announced it is bringing the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Tuscaloosa in the coming weeks. With the 4G LTE network, customers can use 4GLTE wireless devices in Tuscaloosa to access the Internet faster; listen to music or watch video on their phones; use thousands of apps; and stay in touch with family and friends, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

When Verizon Wireless turns on its 4G LTE network in Tuscaloosa, customers who live or visit the city of Tuscaloosa, including the University of Alabama campus, as well as Northport, Cottondale and Alberta City will have access to the nation’s fastest 4G network.

“We are excited to be bringing 4G LTE to Tuscaloosa,” said Jonathan LeCompte, president – Georgia/Alabama region, Verizon Wireless. “This new technology will benefit not only residents of Tuscaloosa and University of Alabama students but also the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the campus every year. As we continue to expand 4G LTE across the state, it is revolutionizing the way Alabamians communicate.”

Since its launch on Dec. 5, 2010, Verizon Wireless has introduced its 4G LTE network to more than 200 million people in 203 markets across the country and supports more than 20 4G LTE devices, including a wide variety of tablets, smartphones, hotspots and more.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
