BUFFALO, NY — Verizon Wireless has activated 28 new 4G LTE cell sites throughout the Buffalo-Niagara area, expanding and enhancing coverage on the high-speed wireless data network the company launched locally in October. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is the only 4G LTE network available in the Buffalo area.

The company’s 4G LTE network also will launch in the Cattaraugus-Allegany area on Thursday – one of 27 new and 44 expanded markets launching across the United States on April 19. With the new and expanded markets, the company’s 4G LTE network will be available to two-thirds of the U.S. population in 230 markets, including ten markets in New York State.

The company’s 4G LTE rollout is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013.

“Our continued aggressive expansion of our 4G LTE network in Western New York means the area’s fastest and most reliable high-speed wireless data network is getting even more robust,” said Russ Preite, president of Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region. “And we’re far from finished. We will continue to expand our 4G LTE coverage locally and across the country, allowing our customers to connect faster and with greater capability, no matter how they use their wireless devices.”

Verizon Wireless added 4G LTE to sites in the following areas:

  • Buffalo
  • Tonawanda
  • Cheektowaga
  • Williamsville
  • Getzville
  • Angola
  • Hamburg
  • Akron
  • Kenmore
  • Derby
  • Lackawanna
  • Springville
  • Niagara Falls

In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless customers will be able to use their 4G LTE smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptop modems and mobile hotspots to experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink – perfect for surfing the Web, streaming video, and downloading large files wirelessly.
